Week 1: Plants and Animals
June 8-11
Drop off 8:45-9:00
pickup 1:45-2:00
During summer camp we will be focused on learning about soil, seeds, and plants. Your student will learn to compost, dissect a seed and work with the plants growing on the farm. We will learn how to harvest green beans, tomatoes, okra and cucumbers (to name a few), as well as learn to make ferments and other yummy treats with some of the veggies we harvest. We will have animal encounters with chickens and goats. Did you know a chickens ear color will give you a clue about what color eggs it will lay? Chickens actually get clean by rolling in the dirt! Don’t forget about the humble honey bee! We will learn various jobs bees perform within the hive as well as bee behavior and different products from the hive such as beeswax for making candles. We will learn to communicate through the waggle dance and have a lot of fun being on the farm. We will learn about food as medicine as well as natural plant dyes. Have you ever worn a turmeric dyed t-shirt? Your student will stay cool with popsicles and plenty of water play activities including a water slide on the last day. Hope to see you there!
